Uganda Family Adventure

Uganda Family Adventure – 10 Days

The ultimate family safari trip, suitable for families with children too young to trek Mountain Gorillas (you must be 15 to do this). First spend 2 nights in Entebbe, searching for the prehistoric-looking Shoebill Stork amongst the papyrus reed beds and experiencing the delights of Entebbe on your own street food tour.

Next, travel to Murchison Falls National Park for four nights, experiencing 4×4 and boat safaris on the Nile in this magnificent park, as well as trekking Chimpanzees and walking with rhinos in the nearby reserves.

Finally head to the ‘Source of the Nile” in Jinja, where you and your family can spend an entire day white-water rafting down the river Nile as well as a Quad Biking adventure along the banks.

This itinerary is written based on the lodges we suggest in each area – see the links in the descriptions below for individual lodge websites as well as alternative properties that will also work on this route.

Day 1: Entebbe

Our VIP meet and greet service will welcome you off the plane then transfer you to our very own boutique hotel, Karibu Entebbe, just a few minutes’ drive from the airport.

Here you’ll have time to relax and decompress after your flight in the tropical surroundings before going through your itinerary with one of our team. Relax with a signature cocktail, or take a dip in the palm and bougainvillea-bordered pool, preparing for your drive to Murchison Falls National Park next day.

If you arrive during the day, we can recommend a relaxing sunset cruise along the papyrus shore-line of Lake Victoria

Day 2: Mbamba Wetlands

This morning you’ll have a private transfer to the shores of Lake Victoria. Here your engine-powered boat will take you across the inlet to the edge of Mbamba Wetlands. From here you’ll transfer into a smaller canoe-type boat to enter the narrow papyrus channels in search of the rare and unique Shoebill.

In the afternoon you'll walk along the streets of effervescent Entebbe, sampling a variety of local street food and experiencing Ugandan urban culture.

Days 3 & 4: Murchison Falls National Park

Return to the airport this morning, where after a short flight you will land right in the middle of Murchison Falls National Park. Meeting your private guide, you’ll take a safari drive to Anyadwe House, right on the banks of the Nile River.

This property is only booked on an “exclusive use” basis – your team of friendly staff are on hand to prepare home-cooked meals and make sure you have everything that you need.

This afternoon your private guide will take you on safari in the park, searching out the variety of wildlife resident in Murchison Falls.

The next day, choose a relaxing breakfast at the house, or get moving early, heading into the park with your guide for a morning safari. As well as very good numbers of giraffe, elephants and buffalo, Murchison has a healthy population of lion, hyena and leopard that lucky adventurers may encounter on safari.

When you return to the house you’ll take a private boat safari to the base of the falls, then enjoy a sundowner on the way back downstream to the lodge jetty.

Day 5: Murchison Falls National Park

A short drive in the morning will bring you to Budongo Forest where you will spend the morning trekking the wild chimpanzee population. Chimpanzee sightings are very common in Budongo and you will spend an hour observing these remarkable and intriguing apes. Please be aware that the minimum age for Chimpanzee Trekking is 12 years old. However for any younger children, an exciting and educational forest walk can be arranged to be run in conjunction with the Chimpanzee Trekking.

In the afternoon you can choose to take another safari with your private guide in the park or simply relax and enjoy the luxury on offer at the house.

Day 6: Murchison Falls National Park

This morning your private boat will leave the house early, moving in the other direction to where the Nile meets Lake Albert. This is a great place to spot not only bird-life, but a great array of aquatic and terrestrial animals.

This afternoon you can choose to go on another safari with your private guide in the park or simply relax and enjoy the swimming pool at the house.

Day 7: Rhino Trekking & Jinja

After an early breakfast, you’ll leave Murchison Falls and drive towards Jinja. En-route you will visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you will walk with white rhinos in their natural habitat.

Following this, you will continue to the Nile, closer to the source this time, staying at Lemala Wild Waters Lodge. A truly unique lodge, situated on an island surrounded by some of the Nile’s biggest rapids.

Days 8 & 9: Jinja

Your guide will take you to the start point for your white-water rafting experience after breakfast. You will spend a full day on the rapids, looked after by highly experienced instructors and stopping midway for lunch and refreshments. There are various rafting options available based on the age and dynamics of your family. From extreme Grade 5 rapids to a “Family Float” trip – suitable for even young children.

The following day, cross to the other side of the Nile for a Quad Bike safari along the banks of the Nile – this is also easily adjustable to family ages and abilities.

Day 10: Depart Uganda

After a leisurely breakfast, your guide will drive you 3 hours back to Karibu in Entebbe where you can relax, freshen up and have dinner before your flight departing Uganda.
