Ultimate Gorillas – 7 Days

This experience is designed for true primate enthusiasts and those looking to stay in some of the most beautiful forest habitats found in Africa. Starting in Entebbe then spending two nights in the Nkuringo area, perched above Bwindi Impenetrable Forest under the backdrop of the impressive Virunga Volcano Range.

 

Here you will undertake your first trek to the Mountain Gorillas before moving further south to Mgahinga National Park, staying for 3 more nights. Nestled amongst mountain vegetation, this will be the starting point for your second Gorilla trek as well as a visit to the beautiful and inquisitive Golden Monkeys, found in the alpine bamboo forests on the mountain slopes.

Day 1: Entebbe

Our VIP meet and greet service will welcome you off the plane then transfer you to our very own boutique hotel, Karibu Entebbe, just a few minutes’ drive from the airport.

 

Here you’ll have time to relax and decompress after your flight in the tropical surroundings before going through your itinerary with one of our team. Relax with a signature cocktail, or take a dip in the palm and bougainvillea-bordered pool, preparing for your flight the next day.

 

If you arrive during the day, we can recommend a relaxing sunset cruise along the papyrus shore-line of Lake Victoria.

Days 2 & 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Your private transfer will drive you back to the airport where you’ll take approximately a one hour flight to Kisoro airfield, greeted by your private guide who will drive you to your private Forest Suite at Nkuringo Lodge, perched above Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with a great view of the Virunga Volcano Range. You can choose to relax for the rest of the day in the tranquil surroundings of the lodge or explore the beautiful lodge gardens.

 

After breakfast the following morning, a short drive will bring you to the trekking headquarters and the start point of your gorilla trek. Here, experienced rangers and guides will go over the details of the trek with you before you set off in search of the majestic Mountain Gorillas. Finding the gorillas can take anywhere between 1 to 4 hours (sometimes longer), your lodge will provide you with plenty of drinking water and a packed lunch to keep you going during your hike.

 

Upon locating the gorillas, you will spend an hour with these magnificent primates, observing a family in their completely wild and natural habitat. The guides and rangers will provide detailed information on the gorilla family’s history and dynamics, giving a rich and informed wildlife experience. Once you have returned from your trek, your private guide will take you back to the lodge, where you will be able to relax and reminisce on your gorilla encounter.

Days 4 & 5: Mgahinga National Park

Your private guide will take you on a scenic, 3 hour drive further south to Mgahinga National Park, where you will stay at the tranquil Volcanoes Gahinga Lodge. Explore the picturesque grounds full of diverse vegetation and birdlife or go on one of the many walks along the slopes of the volcano.

 

The following morning your guide will take you a short distance to the starting point for your trek to the Golden Monkeys. Walking up to mountain slopes you will experience changing vegetation zones before reaching the alpine bamboo forests. This is the haunt of the highly interesting Golden Monkeys who live in large groups of up to 70 individuals. You will spend an hour observing these inquisitive, playful primates before making your way back to the lodge.

 

In the afternoon you can choose to visit the local Batwa community, who have been guardians of the forests for hundreds of years. The evening can be spent relaxing at the lodge and enjoying their excellent food and drinks selection.

 

Day 6: Mgahinga National Park

On this day you will experience your second gorilla trek, observing a completely different gorilla family with different group structures and dynamics.

 

Each gorilla trek is unique and during this trip you will have the chance to observe two gorilla families in very different locations and habitats, both equally mesmerizing. After the gorilla trek, the rest of the day is at your leisure.

 

Day 7: Depart Uganda

Your guide will drive you back to the airfield after breakfast and you will land back in Entebbe after approximately an hour-long flight.

 

Your private transfer will take you to Karibu Entebbe, where you can relax with with drinks and lunch before your scheduled flight departing Uganda.
